Why these fibres
We choose natural and responsibly made cellulosic fibres because they begin with plants, wood or fleece—not conventional fossil-based plastic—and because they bring breathable, everyday comfort to textiles. No fibre is impact-free: farming, forestry, animal care, processing, dyeing, product life and end of life all matter. Our aim is not to claim that natural is perfect, but to choose traceable materials, accountable chemistry and pieces worth using for years.
Cotton and jute are grown, wood-based cellulose and bamboo can regrow, and wool is replenished as fleece. Polyester, nylon and acrylic are commonly made from oil and gas. Responsibly sourced renewable feedstocks help us move away from virgin fossil resources.
Synthetic textiles can release plastic microfibres while they are made, worn, washed and discarded. Natural fibres shed too, but they are not fossil-plastic polymers. Avoiding synthetic face fibres removes one recognized source of persistent microplastic pollution.
Cotton, wool and cellulosic fibres can absorb and release moisture vapor; conventional polyester absorbs very little. Together with the right weave, this helps a throw feel less clammy and more comfortable as temperatures change.
Natural does not automatically make dyeing low-impact—shade, dye class, water, energy and mill practice all matter. For our organic cotton, GOTS restricts hazardous chemical inputs and sets controls for wet processing and wastewater.
A note on 100% organic cotton
A newly woven organic-cotton throw can feel firmer than a polyester fleece, especially when the fibre is not masked with a heavy softening finish. That first crispness is not a flaw—it is the honest hand of the yarn and weave.
With everyday handling and proper washing, the yarns relax and the surface becomes more supple. This is a throw made to be broken in—across the sofa, garden, beach, picnic or journey—then washed, used again and kept close for years.

A note on skin comfort: no single fibre guarantees a reaction-free textile. Breathability, surface texture, dyes, finishes and detergent residues all matter—one reason controlled processing is as important to us as the fibre itself.
